PLAINVIEW, TX — Prospective students exploring college options at 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University’s Pioneer Preview on Friday, Feb. 20 will find a wide range of academic opportunities — including expanded nursing pathways that allow future healthcare professionals to begin and potentially complete their education on the Plainview campus.
Dr. Rebekah Grigsby, dean of the Ben & Bertha Mieth School of Nursing, along with Sara Perez and Jesse Gutierrez IV, both assistant professor of nursing, will be on hand throughout the event to visit with students interested in nursing careers and to answer questions about 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ’s growing program.
51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ recently announced plans to expand the reach of the Mieth School of Nursing by creating a pathway enabling students in Plainview to complete pre-nursing coursework locally and continue into nursing school without leaving the South Plains campus. Beginning this fall, incoming freshmen may enter the established pre-nursing track with the expectation that qualified students will be able to apply for the first Plainview-based nursing cohort, scheduled to begin in Fall 2028.
Students accepted into the program will have the option of completing their nursing education in either Plainview or San Antonio, increasing flexibility while maintaining the program’s academic rigor.
“Events like Pioneer Preview give students a chance to explore nursing early and see how these new opportunities can fit their future plans,” Grigsby said. “We want them to understand both the academic preparation involved and the support they’ll receive along the way.”
While nursing opportunities will be a featured topic, Pioneer Preview is designed for all prospective students — whether they are considering business, education, the sciences, the arts, ministry, athletics, or other academic programs. The preview day begins at 9 a.m. and includes campus tours, meetings with faculty, financial aid information, student life presentations, and opportunities to connect with current students and university staff.
“Pioneer Preview really lets students picture themselves here,” said Holli Wauson, director of undergraduate admission. “They get to explore majors, meet professors, and experience the campus community firsthand. Whether they already know their path or are still exploring, it’s a great way to start that conversation.”
Lunch is provided for participants and their guests, and there is no cost to attend.
