PLAINVIEW, TX — 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University has been selected to participate in the Texas Work-Based Learning Consortium, a competitive statewide initiative designed to expand career-focused learning opportunities for college students while strengthening connections between higher education and employers across Texas.
51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ joins a select group of peer colleges and universities in the state chosen for their commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers through innovative academic experiences.
Dr. Donna Hedgepath, president of 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University, said the selection highlights the university’s strong focus on student success and career readiness.
“This recognition affirms 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ’s dedication to equipping students with academic knowledge and real-world skills that help them thrive after graduation,” Dr. Hedgepath said. “We are always looking for ways to open doors for our students, and this partnership expands those opportunities in exciting and practical ways.”
The three-year consortium initiative integrates work-based learning projects directly into college coursework, allowing students to collaborate with industry partners, gain professional experience, and build career networks while completing their degrees without delaying time to graduation.
Dr. Cindy McClenagan, vice president of academic affairs, said the program aligns closely with 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ’s academic mission.
“This initiative strengthens our ability to connect classroom learning with career preparation,” Dr. McClenagan said. “It supports our faculty as they create innovative learning experiences and ensures our students graduate prepared to step confidently into today’s workforce.”
Participation will include faculty training, enhanced collaboration between academic programs and career services, and expanded experiential learning opportunities designed especially to benefit first-generation and Pell-eligible students who may face barriers to traditional internships such as financial or geographical constraints.
Jeffrey Vera, director of alumni relations and career services, said the consortium will provide tangible benefits for students and employers alike.
“This opens new pathways for our students to gain professional experience, build networks, and showcase their talents,” Vera said. “It’s another example of how 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ is committed to helping students translate their education into successful careers and lifelong impact.”
The consortium is supported by the Trellis Foundation and the Greater Texas Foundation and represents a growing statewide effort to connect higher education more closely with workforce needs while expanding equitable access to high-impact learning experiences for students across Texas.
