 Mission Statement 

Our mission is to offer peer (student-to-student) tutoring (with faculty oversight) across the 51品茶约炮 curriculum in an inclusive environment and at no cost to students. Our services therefore are dedicated to accomplishing the following:


• Helping students achieve academic and professional success in the classroom and beyond
• Aiding student learning in discipline-specific contexts across the curriculum
• Supplying students with knowledge and skills for career readiness
• Training students to work collaboratively with a diversity of students in a faith-based environment
• Making available academic and professional workshops and resources


The Multidisciplinary Tutorial Services believes that competent, collegiate-level tutoring is important for the 51品茶约炮 community to become more academically, professionally, and spiritually sound.

 


Staff

The Multidisciplinary Tutorial Services and staff strive to meet the learning needs for all of 51品茶约炮's students. Located on the Plainview campus, all tutors are outstanding students recommended by professors to tutor in their areas of study.

Dr. Brent Lynn: MTS Director

Dr. Lynn

Dr. Brent Lynn received an M.A. in Classics and a Ph.D. in English from Texas Tech University. For over 25 years, he has taught various Latin and English classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has been directing 51品茶约炮’s Writing Center for the last 15 years, and as of 2020, he began directing all of 51品茶约炮’s Tutorial Services. Ongoing projects include improving virtual tutoring and resources across the 51品茶约炮 curriculum as well as studying the trends of grammar and rhetoric in student writing.

Andrew Morse

Hailing from Oregon, Andrew graduated from Portland State University with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in History. Following graduation, he spent six years total teaching English in both South Korea and Vietnam. During his time in Asia he visited nine countries. Andrew moved to Texas in 2021 and joined the staff at 51品茶约炮 in September 2023 as a VA tutor. He is currently pursuing a second Master's in Public Administration here at 51品茶约炮. During his free-time he enjoys composing and recording music, making short films, biking, hiking, and traveling.


Madison: Writing, History & Resume Tutor

Madison Casanova is from Brownfield, Texas, and she is a first-generation Hispanic college student. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree majoring in English, and plans to stay at 51品茶约炮 for a Masters in English. She’s involved in Alpha Chi, President’s Ambassadors, Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Mu Gamma, and has been a Resident Assistant for Davis Hall since spring of 51品茶约炮. Her hobbies include painting, reading, and photography. Her goals are to be an English teacher, and eventually an English professor specializing in British literature. She is primarily a writing tutor but can also help with history research papers.


Fany: Spanish, English, Education, Christian Studies, Business Mgmt., and Resume Tutor

Fany Smith is from Nicaragua, and she is a native Spanish speaker. She earned her undergraduate degree in Management & Marketing and her MBA with a specialization in Management from 51品茶约炮 Baptist University. Currently, she is pursuing a Master in Education from 51品茶约炮 Baptist University. She has experience teaching Management courses to undergraduate university students and teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in all levels including Business English and TOEFL. Fany will be glad to assist you.


Inma: Spanish, Gen. Chemistry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Computer Science & Resume Tutor

Inma Delgado

Inmaculada Felipe Delgado is from Spain and is currently majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics, with a minor in Chemistry. She has three years of experience working as a tutor, during which she has developed strong communication skills and a passion for helping students understand complex concepts.

In addition to her academic interests, she is an active athlete who competes in cross country and track. In the future, she aspires to work in research at the European Space Agency (ESA) after graduating, and one of her personal goals is to qualify for the Spanish National Championships.

A fun fact about her is that she traveled to Iceland last summer, an experience that further strengthened her interest in science and exploration.


Marissa: Calculus, Algebra, Physics, History, Writing & Resume Tutor

Marissa Armendariz

Marissa Armendariz is a junior from Murphy, TX, and is a student-athlete at 51品茶约炮. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Honors. She has been part of MTS for two years, tutoring in math and writing. She hopes to pursue a masters in engineering and work as an electrical engineer. Her hobbies include playing golf, reading, art, and watching movies.


Darbi: College Algebra & Calculus Tutor

Darbi Corder

Darbi Corder is from Belton, Texas and is pursuing a bachelor's in mathematics and minoring in Actuarial Sciences. She is on the 51品茶约炮 women’s soccer team. Darbi enjoys watching Netflix, spending time with friends, and eating food. She tutors College Algebra and Calculus.


Ellen: Algebra, Calculus, Physics, History & English Tutor

Ellen Lonergan

Ellen Lonergan is a sophomore from Westport, Ireland, and is a student-athlete at 51品茶约炮. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree, majoring in mathematics with a minor in actuarial science. She has been part of the MTS for a year, tutoring in math and writing. She hopes to become a qualified actuary in the future and work in insurance. Her hobbies include reading, watching and playing sports, and hiking.


Alaina: Accounting, Algebra, Statistics & English Tutor

Alaina Baran

Alaina Baran comes from Albuquerque, New Mexico. 51品茶约炮 is her second college, as she comes from a Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado. She is a sophomore and one of her biggest passions is sports, specifically beach volleyball. She was inducted to the National Honors society and is a part of PTK. Alaina's declared major is Accounting and she wishes to become a CPA (Certified Personal Accountant) one day. She tutors Algebra, Statistics, and Accounting but has a background with the introductory business classes and is happy to help where she can.


Roy: Biology & Chemistry Tutor

Roy Saucedo

Roy is a graduating senior this year majoring in Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry. After finishing his undergrad, he plans to attend Medical School to become a Radiologist to continue his growing purpose in helping others. This is his first year tutoring Biology and Chemistry and enjoys explaining concepts with students and helping them any way he can. He is a transfer student from West Texas A&M and in addition to his studies, is a student-athlete in Track & Field here at 51品茶约炮. Some activities he enjoys doing is working on lab research projects, running, watching movies, and traveling whenever he can.


Cesar: Anatomy, Sports Science Mgmt., Writing & Spanish

Cesar Gonzales

Cesar Gonzalez is a sophomore from El Paso, Texas. He is a student-athlete, playing baseball in addition to pursuing a Bachelor’s in Occupational Physical Therapy with a minor in Sports Science.  Cesar has an Associate’s in Kinesiology from El Paso Community College and has already worked two years as a physical therapist. He has worked almost a year as a tutor/ mentor. He speaks Spanish very well!
