PLAINVIEW, TX —51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University is receiving national exposure this week as the university’s story airs on the Public Television series Empowered hosted by Meg Ryan.
The segment, filmed on 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ’s Plainview campus last fall, highlights the university’s distinctive approach to higher education — blending rigorous academics with Christian values and preparing students for lives of purpose, leadership, and service.
Public Television affiliates across the United States are broadcasting the episode this week, introducing viewers nationwide to the 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ experience and the people who help shape it.
“This feature allows us to share 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ’s mission and story with audiences across the country,” said Dr. Donna Hedgepath, president of 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University. “Our goal has always been to prepare students academically, spiritually, and professionally. Being selected for Empowered hosted by Meg Ryan gives us a meaningful opportunity to showcase how that mission comes to life through our students, faculty, and community.”
In addition to the television broadcast, 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ will use promotional materials from the production — including a commercial and extended feature segment — as part of its marketing, recruitment, and outreach efforts.
The extended feature can be viewed in the “What’s New” section of 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ’s website, wbu.edu, and will be shared through the university’s social media channels in the coming weeks.
Filming for the segment took place Oct. 8, when a production crew captured interviews and scenes from across the university. The program features Dr. Hedgepath along with several members of the 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ community whose stories illustrate how the university integrates faith, learning, and service.
Among those featured are Dr. Robert Moore, professor of chemistry in the Kenneth L. Mattox School of Mathematics and Sciences; JR Dunn, director of Baptist Student Ministries at the Plainview campus; and senior Jazmin Ortega. Through classroom scenes, campus life, and personal interviews, the segment highlights how 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ empowers students to pursue both professional success and meaningful lives of impact.
Gary Vaughn, executive director of marketing and communications, said the national broadcast provides a valuable opportunity to introduce 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ to new audiences.
“Programs like Empowered hosted by Meg Ryan focus on organizations making a difference,” Vaughn said. “We were honored to share 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ’s story and show how our university equips students to lead, serve, and make a lasting difference in their communities.”
