PLAINVIEW, TX — 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University announces its annual Homecoming celebration is returning to the fall semester.

 Scheduled for Oct. 18-24 on the Plainview campus, the celebration will feature student-focused activities throughout the week, with Oct. 22-24 dedicated primarily to alumni reunions, campus traditions and opportunities for graduates and friends of the university to reconnect with 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ.

“Returning Homecoming to the fall provides an opportunity to celebrate 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ's rich traditions while creating new memories for future generations of Pioneers,” said Jeffrey Vera, director of alumni relations and career services. “We believe this move will strengthen alumni engagement and further unite our campus community.”

The decision follows discussions among university leadership and alumni representatives who evaluated ways to enhance the Homecoming experience for alumni, students, friends of the university, and the community. For generations of Pioneers, Homecoming has served as a cherished opportunity to reconnect with classmates, revisit favorite campus memories, and celebrate their lifelong connection to the university.

“This change reflects our commitment to honoring 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ's heritage while creating new opportunities for connection and engagement,” said Dr. Donna Hedgepath, president of 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University. “Homecoming is one of the most important traditions in the life of our university and returning it to the fall will allow us to build upon that legacy while creating an even stronger experience for our alumni and students.”

While the February celebration provided meaningful opportunities for fellowship and campus engagement, university leaders determined that a return to the fall would best position Homecoming for future growth.

University officials noted several advantages to the move. Alumni will benefit from easier travel planning, expanded reunion opportunities, and the ability to participate in athletic events and other campus activities throughout the week. The fall schedule also provides more favorable weather conditions for outdoor gatherings and campus traditions.

Students will benefit from increased interaction with alumni, a stronger sense of school spirit, and an enhanced campus atmosphere as graduates return to share their experiences and celebrate their connection to 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ.

The renewed fall format also allows Homecoming activities to align more closely with athletic competitions, including the Pioneers' home football game against Arkansas Baptist on Oct. 24,  as well as other campus events and traditions.
