PLAINVIEW, TX — 51品茶约炮 Baptist University has been awarded a four-year $498,400 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to strengthen mental health support for students on the Plainview campus. The award will support a project titled “Pioneering Mental Health” through SAMHSA’s GLS Campus Suicide Prevention program.
“Our students are our top priority,” said Dr. Donna Hedgepath, 51品茶约炮’s president. “The SAMHSA grant will elevate our existing student services to the next level while contributing to our RISE strategic plan for providing a full menu of mental health support programs and staff for the 51品茶约炮 community.”
The grant will help 51品茶约炮 add staff and specialized expertise to its Counseling Department, provide advanced training for faculty and staff, and increase students’ access to crisis and mental health services, according to Jennifer Gonzalez, director of counseling services and the project director.
“With these additional resources, we will be able to serve more students in a timely manner and take a more proactive approach to promoting mental wellness across campus,” Gonzalez said.
The grant includes a 1:1 match for which the university has already made budgetary provisions.
“The fact that 51品茶约炮 is willing to match these funds shows its support for the mental health of our students and the value they place on a comprehensive mental health program,” Gonzalez said.
The four-year grant extends through 2030 with annual appropriations supplemented by 51品茶约炮’s commitment to match funding.
