Assistant Volleyball Coach & Athletics Marketing and Communications Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

This hybrid position serves a dual role within 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University Athletics, with responsibilities evenly divided between assisting the women’s indoor and beach volleyball programs and supporting the Office of Athletic Media Relations & Marketing. The successful candidate will contribute to competitive excellence, student-athlete development, and the promotion of 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Athletics while advancing the University’s Christ-centered mission.

PART I: ASSISTANT COACH – INDOOR & BEACH VOLLEYBALL (50%)

General Responsibilities

The Assistant Coach for Indoor and Beach Volleyball assists in all aspects of the women’s indoor and beach volleyball programs. This position supports the Head Coach in fostering a competitive, disciplined, and Christ-centered environment that emphasizes athletic performance, academic success, and personal and spiritual growth of student-athletes.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in planning and implementing training sessions, practices, and match strategies for both indoor and beach volleyball.
  2. Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of beach volleyball rules, techniques, and game strategy.
  3. Independently lead and supervise teams at competitions and tournaments, including travel coordination, game management, and student-athlete supervision.
  4. Assist with recruiting qualified student-athletes who align with 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University’s mission, values, and athletic standards.
  5. Ensure compliance with all NAIA, Sooner Athletic Conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
  6. Monitor and support the academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes.
  7. Assist with scheduling practices, competitions, and team travel for both programs.
  8. Support budget management and logistical planning for the volleyball programs.
  9. Maintain and oversee inventory of volleyball equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  10. Contribute to game-day operations, campus engagement initiatives, and community outreach.
  11. Assist with marketing, fundraising, and development efforts related to the volleyball programs.
  12. Serve as a mentor and positive role model, promoting leadership, character development, and spiritual growth among student-athletes.

PART II: ASSISTANT COORDINATOR OF ATHLETIC MEDIA RELATIONS & MARKETING (50%)

General Responsibilities

The Assistant Coordinator of Athletic Media Relations & Marketing assists in communicating and promoting 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University Athletics through media relations, marketing, branding, digital content, and statistical reporting. This role supports institutional visibility, fan engagement, and compliance with NAIA and conference reporting standards.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serve as an assistant media liaison for 51Æ·²èÔ¼ÅÚ Baptist University Athletics.
  2. Assist with monitoring and compliance with NAIA, Sooner Athletic Conference, and institutional policies related to athletic statistics, publications, and reporting.
  3. Assist with media operations and game management in all athletic venues.
  4. Support the development, coordination, and execution of a comprehensive athletics marketing plan.
  5. Assist with brand strategy and content creation across print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
  6. Assist with the supervision and maintenance of the athletics website.
  7. Assist with the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive social media strategy, including platforms such as Facebook, X, and YouTube.
  8. Assist with tracking expenditures and revenues for the Media Relations & Marketing budget and recommend future needs.
  9. Collaborate with campus departments to implement promotional activities designed to increase fan engagement and attendance.
  10. Assist with Sports Information & Communications operations and supervise student workers as assigned.

The duties listed above are not all-inclusive. The employee may perform other related duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Media Relations & Marketing for Intercollegiate Athletics and the Athletic Director.

HOURS OF WORK

Although full-time, non-exempt employees are typically scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time employees is forty (40) hours. Regular workdays are Monday through Friday; however, evenings, weekends, and travel are required as needed for practice, competitions, and events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently stand and walk.
  • Frequently flex the upper trunk forward while sitting or standing.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally push or pull objects.
  • Frequently reach at or below shoulder height; occasionally above shoulder height.
  • Perform volleyball-specific movements, including serving, ball control, and repetitive motion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in athletic coaching, sports information, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of social media, digital, and email marketing strategies.
  • Working knowledge of athletic statistical software and reporting systems.
  • Understanding of graphic design principles and journalistic writing standards.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, StatCrew, DakStats, Adobe InDesign, and related sports statistical software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and travel.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, coaches, administrators, media, and the public.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is subject to an introductory evaluation period. The employee must provide documentation establishing identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of hire in compliance with ICE requirements. The employee must be willing and able to travel, operate a licensed motor vehicle, maintain a valid driver’s license, have access to reliable transportation, and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
