POSITION CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt

POSITIONS SUPERVISED:   None

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Technical Services Assistant manages the library’s web presence; establishes and maintains access to the library’s subscribed electronic holdings; collects usage statistics from a variety of vendors; assists the Distance Services Librarian in developing library instruction for online use; shares weekend/evening hours with other library staff; fills in as needed in absence of other library staff; and sometimes serves on university committees as assigned.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Develop the library’s web presence using the University’s CMS as well as Springshare LibGuides and LibWizard to facilitate patron research.
  2. In collaboration with the Information Literacy and Reference Assistant, develop videos and tutorials, which will be made available online, demonstrating use of library resources.
  3. Work with the director of library services to ensure goals and objectives of library support accreditation agency requirements.
  4. Provide access to electronic holdings using a hosted EZ Proxy server.
  5. Communicate with students, faculty, vendors, and IT as needed to resolve any issues arising from our electronic holdings
  6. Collect and compile usage statistics on electronic holdings as needed.
  7. Provide reference services as needed to faculty and students face-to-face, on the phone, and online via email.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. College degree preferred.

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. Previous library experience.
  2. Experience with technology and willingness to learn new applications.
  3. Familiarity with web programming and networking.

 Skills and Abilities:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  2. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  3. Ability to work independently, receiving minimum supervision and guidance on established procedures.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  1. Sit at desk for extended periods of time.
  2. Some standing and filing.
  3. Some lifting of books and pushing book carts.
  4. Work in well lighted, ventilated, and air-conditioned office.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Must pass background check. Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
